In 2017, there are about 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s. Over 15 million caregivers are family members.

Caregivers are stressed by checking up on their loved ones, who are annoyed by the intrusion on their independence.

Currently, 90% of individuals with Alzheimer’s and other dementia live independently at home with the help of family caregivers. Caregiving for seniors, especially ones with dementia, can be difficult to manage. Everyday tasks, such as cooking and eating well, socializing, and navigation, are often difficult for people living with dementia. The balancing act of keeping their loved ones safe and not overly intruding into their lives presents itself as a challenging and stressful task to the family caregivers.

Let Hazel help.

Losing grace and dignity is the biggest challenge for people living with dementia. Doctors can’t fix this, but Hazel can.

Hazel has sensors that caregivers can place anywhere around the home where there’s a cause for concern.

Caregivers download Hazel’s app onto a tablet and leave it in their loved one’s home. They can set Hazel to send gentle reminders to their loved one without ever having to be there. Hazel guides them safely through the day.

The caregiver can see exactly what’s happening in their loved one’s home for peace of mind.

We’re also developing a portal for researchers.

Instead of only acquiring data from intermittent interviews, Hazel collects continuous data so that researchers can have a clearer picture of how their tests, or studies, or programs are really performing. Hazel will capture all this and more inside out web portal designed for researchers.

Jonathan Chung

Developer

I am a phd student at the University of Toronto. My research involves studying data analytics and machine learning techniques of eye movement data for patients with neuropsychological disorders. I have coauthored research papers in both the clinical and technical domain. Application development is a hobby that I work on in my spare time. My research work showed me the potential dangers of living with dementia and how difficult caregiving for loved ones with dementia can be. I hope Hazel can help others with similar or worse issues compared to me.

Lillian Jia

Designer

I’m a product designer with over six years of experience in the design industry, four in consultancy, and two in tech start-ups. Currently I’m working in the IoT space, helping make our buildings smarter and more efficient. Having grandparents living in a different continent across the sea has made me realize how difficult it is to truly see how they are doing. Hazel solves that problem for me, and I believe has the potential to change millions of lives. I’m ready and excited to use my agency and product background to make that happen.
